Conrad Murray Sentence 'Not Enough,' MJ Fans Say

But other Michael Jackson supporters outside L.A. courthouse tell MTV News 'justice has been served.'
By Katie Byrne, with reporting by Vanessa White Wolf

<P><b>LOS ANGELES</b> &#8212; During the trial of Dr. Conrad Murray, <a href="/music/artist/jackson_michael/artist.jhtml">Michael Jackson</a>'s fans have been as much a fixture at the courthouse as the <a href="/news/articles/1675068/conrad-murray-sentencing.jhtml">Jackson family</a>. When <a href="/news/articles/1675062/conrad-murray-sentence.jhtml">Murray was sentenced to four years</a> in jail Tuesday (November 29), MTV News spoke with those loyal fans outside the court to see if the maximum sentence was an apt punishment. </P><P> </P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="MIchael Jackson Fans React To Conrad Murray Sentence" id="vid:715142.id:1673923" width="240" height="211"></div><p> </P><P> </P><P>"Four years &#8212; not enough, but at least something," said one fan, sporting a red jacket in tribute to MJ. "And where I come from, a little something is always better than nothing." </P><P> </P><P>One pair of friends might have been wearing matching <i>Thriller</i> T-shirts, but their opinions on Murray's sentence certainly didn't match. "If four years is the maximum and he got the maximum &#8212; I know she's not happy, but I'm happy," one of the women said, gesturing to her less-than-pleased companion. "I feel like justice was served and that L.A. can now be proud and stand tall." </P><P> </P><P>"It's better than nothing, but it's not even close to justice," said another fan, wearing Jackson's trademark fedora and sequined glove. "Not only was [Murray] negligent; he let the man die. It's unconscionable. He didn't even try. How would a heart doctor not know how to give CPR? It's insane." </P><P> </P><P>The cardiologist, who was found guilty of one felony count of involuntary manslaughter November 7, was facing up to four years in state prison in the death of the pop icon, but due to recent changes to alleviate overcrowding in California prisons, the judge in the case said he was unable to send the doctor to state prison for his crime. On top of that, <a href="/news/articles/1675080/conrad-murray-sentence-four-years-experts.jhtml">legal expert Mike Cavalluzzi told MTV News</a> that Murray will likely serve less than half of his four-year sentence. </P><P> </P><P>Those legal loopholes concerned a female fan outside the courthouse, but she was also happy that the maximum punishment was doled out. </P><P> </P><P>"The only thing I'm worried about now, with the overcrowding of the jails, he might get one year and house arrest," she told MTV News. "I'm just hoping it'll be four years, that's what I'm praying. I'm just glad that justice has been served today, and I'm glad justice can be served to the family and to the fans, and everybody around today will be happy and celebrate that justice has been served. And I'm sure Michael's looking from heaven right now."</p>

Would You Rather Date James Van Der Beek or Joshua Jackson?

It may have been eight years since the boys of Dawson's Creek left the small screen -- but they never really left our hearts. So in honor of James Van Der Beek's new show, Don't Trust the B---- In Apt 23, we're pitting him against his former costar, Joshua Jackson.

Brad Pitt And Angelina Jolie Uniting Onscreen Too?

Pair reportedly may appear together in Ridley Scott's 'The Counselor,' starring Michael Fassbender.
By Fallon Prinzivalli

Have you heard the news, movie fans? Seven years after meeting on the set of "Mr. and Mrs. Smith," Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are engaged! No, for real this time. Cynthia Pett-Dante, Pitt's manager, confirmed the news on Friday (April 13), saying, "It is a promise for the future and their kids are very happy."

Robert Procop, the designer of Jolie's engagement ring, released a statement to People: "Brad had a specific vision for this ring, which he realized over a yearlong collaboration with Robert. He wanted every aspect of it to be perfect, so Robert was able to locate a diamond of the finest quality and cut it to an exact custom size and shape to suit Angelina's hand."

We can hear all the ladies in our office swooning, but that's not the only exciting news for fans of the Hollywood power couple. Pitt and Jolie may star together alongside Michael Fassbender in the forthcoming movie "The Counselor."

Deadline Hollywood reports that director Ridley Scott wanted Pitt and Javier Bardem for the movie. As he's close to getting them both, rumors are circulating that Jolie might also be in talks to play the female lead. She and Scott have been collaborating on a Gertrude Bell biopic, which may have led to the rumors. With Brangelina's engagement now official, it would make sense that the actors would want to remain close to one another.

But Pitt and Jolie wouldn't be the only ones to reunite via "The Counselor." This would be the first time Scott and Pitt work together since Scott directed "Thelma & Louise," a film that undoubtedly launched Pitt's career.

"The Counselor" was written by Cormac McCarthy. It follows a well-respected lawyer (Fassbender) who gets involved in the drug business and quickly finds himself in a situation that's more than he can handle. If cast in the film, Pitt would play a shady middleman and Bardem would be Fassbender's associate. The movie is said to start filming in June and Fox is currently negotiating to distribute.

Will Beyonce Grace The Grammys Red Carpet?

Experts weigh in on when the new mom will make her next appearance, and when we might get to see Blue Ivy.
By Jocelyn Vena

<P><a href="/news/articles/1678726/beyonce-post-baby-appearance-blue-ivy.jhtml">Beyonc&#233; has already stepped out</a> not once but twice support of Jay-Z as he held two <a href="/news/articles/1678669/jay-z-carnegie-hall.jhtml">shows at Carnegie Hall</a> this week in New York City, and now her fans are wondering when and where the next great B sighting might be. </P><P> </P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Former Destiny's Child Members Say Beyonce Looks 'Amazing' Post-Baby" id="vid:732758" width="240" height="211"></div><p> </P><P> </P><P>Will it be at the <a href="http://www.mtv.com/news/grammys/">Grammy Awards</a> on Sunday? Or is she going to save it for when she reveals her <a href="/news/articles/1677033/blue-ivy-beyonce-jay-z-leaves-hospital.jhtml">daughter, Blue Ivy</a>, for the first time? </P><P> </P><P>"This option was typical Beyonc&#233;. She isn't interested in getting paid to pose on a tabloid cover. It was a non-event," Huffington Post celebrity columnist Rob Shuter told MTV News about the first two <a href="http://rapfix.mtv.com/2012/02/08/beyonce-photos-carnegie-hall-night-two/">Queen B sightings</a>. "She isn't one of those reality-type celebrities that turn up at everything just to be seen. Her next big moment will be when she walks a red carpet for a project she is involved in." </P><P> </P><P>With Beyonc&#233; choosing to go a more low-key route this week, celebrity editor <a href="http://gossipdavid.com" target="_blank">David Caplan</a> notes that there's a good chance that she may walk the carpet this Sunday. She's up for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for her Andre 3000-assisted <i>4</i> track, "Party," as well as Best Long Form Music Video for her "I Am ... World Tour" special. Jay-Z is also up for some prizes, including Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song and Best Rap Album for the work he did with Kanye West on "Otis" and <i>Watch the Throne.</i> </P><P> </P><P>"Going forward, I expect her next big reveal to be at a show like the Grammys, where she can really jazz it up with a gown, which people want to see," he noted. "I think we'll see Beyonc&#233; gradually appear in more photos at events with Jay-Z as she seeks to get back into the groove. And once those baby photos are out, I wouldn't be surprised to see her out and about occasionally with Blue doing mommy-related tasks." </P><P> </P><P>So, how should we expect to see those first photos? "Since Beyonc&#233; chose to make the reveal by simply stepping out, and letting the throngs of photographers waiting for her to have a field day by taking tons of photos, her reveal allowed every media outlet to run the photos and make the reveal themselves, as opposed to if Beyonc&#233; made an exclusive first post-baby picture deal with a magazine like <i>People</i> or <i>Us</i> or a monthly magazine like <i>Vogue</i> or <i>Vanity Fair</i>," he said. </P><P> </P><P>"Stylistically, had she done a proper shoot with a magazine, the photos would have a much more top-notch quality to them, but when celebs do such photo shoots, they open themselves up to scrutiny since the public sometimes shuns on celebs who get paid for such photos, which happens, especially with the celebrity weeklies," he continued. "But the photos are great, and it's obvious she worked with at least one photo agency, since she posted very clear photos of herself on her website." </P><P> </P><P>And, since B has already been out and about, that ultimately affects the value of future pictures of her. "Now that the first pics of her post-baby have been revealed, the monetary value of subsequent photos of her &#8212; without her baby, of course &#8212; will be of course pricey," Caplan said. "But ultimately less in value since there's already a set out." </P><P>Well, whenever B decides to make her big red-carpet statement or introduce the world to Blue Ivy, she's certainly already floored her friends with her dazzling post-baby looks. "She looks fantastic. She looks fantastic. I told her she looks so hot!" <a href="/news/articles/1678927/beyonce-blue-ivy-appearance.jhtml">Kelly Rowland</a> exclaimed to MTV News this week. "She looks so hot; just even sexy. Love her!" </P><P> </P><P><i>Do you think Beyonc&#233; will show up at the Grammys? Leave your comment below.</i> </P><P> </P><P><b>Chaos! Profanity! 'Cabin In The Woods': The Reviews Are In!

Critics are mostly positive about Joss Whedon's horror-movie send-up.
By Kevin P. Sullivan

Fran Kranz, Chris Hemsworth and Anna Hutchison in "Cabin in the Woods"
Photo: Lionsgate

The critics have (kinda) spoken about the latest from Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard, "The Cabin in the Woods." The mysteries of "Cabin" have been some of the most closely guarded secrets at the movies in recent years. If you're seeking out reviews of the buzzed-about horror flick, do so with caution. Not everyone is equally keen to keep their reviews spoiler-free.

The critics are largely positive, overall. There is some concern that the film, a send-up of the horror genre, isn't as scary as the movies it's commenting on.

Here is our spoiler-free roundup of reviews of "The Cabin in the Woods."

The Spoilers "Stop reading this review right now. Go see 'The Cabin in the Woods,' then come back and we can have a conversation about it. Just trust me on this. The less you know going into it, the better." — Christy Lemire, The Associated Press

The Story "Five college friends pile into a camper for a frolicsome vacation. There's the alpha male hunk (Chris Hemsworth), his va-voom girlfriend (Anna Hutchison), the stoner and Shaggy of the group (Fran Kranz), the shy but charismatic brain (Jesse Williams) and the sympathetic, smart and not incidentally pretty hot protagonist (Kristen Connolly). Early on, we're shown that they're being watched very closely, and perhaps controlled, by a massive control room. Their primary handlers are played by Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford." — Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune

The Whedon-verse "Some dialogue will remind audiences of the sassy sarcasm tossed off in the face of monstrous creatures in Whedon's cult TV series 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer,' episodes of which Goddard also co-wrote." — Claudia Puig, USA Today

The Scares "With compulsive effort that is meant to feel like giddy abandon, they have tried to make a horror movie that is frightening, original and knowing, all at the same time. Two out of three is not bad, given the difficulty of the task. A wink can sometimes undermine a scare. Novelty and genre traditionalism often fight to a draw. Too much overt cleverness has a way of spoiling dumb, reliable thrills." — A.O. Scott, New York Times

The Final Word "If 'Scream' was a meta-hack-'em-up, 'Cabin' takes five giant steps back to reveal a wider canvas, gleefully jumbling together every kind of modern horror picture, paranoid-conspiracy thrillers, 'Matrix'-style sci-fi, and a dollop of H. P. Lovecraft. Is it scary? Not especially. But there are enough gory surprises around every bend to keep you laughing/screaming/cringing." — David Edelstein, New York

Check out everything we've got on "The Cabin in the Woods."

Britney Spears 'Cannot Wait' For 'America's Best Dance Crew' Premiere

Season seven starts tonight at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV featuring performances set to the best Britney songs.

<P>In anticipation of the epic season premiere of <a href="http://www.mtv.com/shows/dance_crew/season_7/series.jhtml">"Randy Jackson Presents: America's Best Dance Crew,"</a> MTV has been rolling out a few very extra special details via <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/mtv">Twitter</a>, the biggest one being that tonight's premiere will feature performances set to our favorite songs from pop princess <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/spears_britney/artist.jhtml">Britney Spears</a>. </P><P> </P><P>Spears <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/britneyspears/status/190197987526455298"> tweeted</a> out the good news herself. "Make sure you tune into #ABDC tonight on @MTV at 10/9C!" she wrote. "Heard they're closing show with Womanizer...CAN NOT WAIT to see what these crews do." </P><P> </P><P><CENTER><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:757793/cp~name%3Dnews%26id%3D1682822%26vid%3D757793%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A757793" width="430" height="242" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></CENTER> </P><P> </P><P>This season, dubbed "Return of the Superstars," will feature nine all-new hip-hop dance crews and one returning past crew, a fan favorite from season two, Fanny Pak. </P><P> </P><P>"This is not Fanny Pak, it's Back Pack," joked judge J.C. Chasez. "It's a huge group now. When I saw Fanny Pak I think there were five members and now there are like eight or nine. I'm excited though because what I loved about Fanny Pak on the season they were on is that they don't rely strictly on their athleticism as dancers. They really work into the theme, they listen to what the music is saying." </P><P> </P><P>"I love Fanny Pak," fellow judge Lil' Mama said. "I think that they're fantastic as a crew, and when you're alumni and have been through the ropes you know what to expect, it gets tougher as you go along so and people bring their A-game, so we're hoping they can last through to the end because they're a good crew." </P><P> </P><P>This is the first time in the series' history a crew from a prior season will return to compete for the title. In the intimate chat, which took place at Gaga's childhood home in New York City, the never-press-shy Gaga made another big announcement. </P><P> </P><P><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:749701/cp~vid%3D749701%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A749701" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed> </P><P> </P><P>"Other than this interview, Oprah, I don't intend to speak to anyone for a very long time. I have to shut out the noise," Mother Monster told Winfrey, according to <a href="http://www.gossipcop.com/oprah-lady-gaga-interview-2012-bullying-childhood-oprahs-next-chapter-recap-highlights-video/" target="_blank">Gossip Cop</a>. "The latest thing I do is I don't read a damn thing. No press, no television. If my mom calls and says, 'Did you hear about?' I don't want to know nothing about anything that is going on ... I shut it all off." </P><P> </P><P>Gaga's mother was on hand for parts of the interview, sharing that in Gaga's early days, her father thought she had a "screw loose" while she was performing at downtown New York nightclubs in her bra while lighting hairspray on fire. The superstar added that there's one thing about her current act that her mother isn't a big fan of. </P><P> </P><P>"She doesn't like when I swear," Gaga said, with her mother adding, "You're effective without it." </P><P> </P><P>Another part of the candid chat also focused on Gaga's youth, during which she said she was frequently bullied. "There really is no difference between the bully and the victim," she said. "I would like to do a psychological autopsy on as many bullies and victims as possible ... How do we understand what breeds hatred, what breeds anger?" </P><P>She added that despite all "all the praise you receive, something inside of you is scarred by those experiences. ... Sometimes I feel worthless." </P><P>Parts of the special were also filmed at Harvard University last month. </P><P> </P><P>The singer and the talk show host were on hand at the prestigious college to launch Gaga's <a href="/news/articles/1680176/lady-gaga-launches-born-this-way-foundation-harvard.jhtml"><i>Born This Way</i> Foundation</a>. </P><P> </P><P>"I just have one thing to say before we get started: We got Oprah! ... Thank you from all of us &#8212; from my entire team, from my mother, from the bottom of the hearts of so many people who believe in what we're doing today," Gaga said at the launch. She explained that the foundation seeks to empower the youth of America, adding, "How can we inspire young people to know they have the power to be brave?"</p>

Dimmu Borgir Release Live DVD; Plus Led Zeppelin, Brujeria, &amp; More News That Rules, In Metal File

'It shows the intense live side of the band, as opposed to the perfection and the cleanness of how we sound on our albums,' guitarist says.
By Chris Harris

<P>On October 14, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/borgir_dimmu/artist.jhtml">Dimmu Borgir</a>Dimmu Borgir &#8212; who just happen to be <a href="/news/articles/1593780/demi-lovato-metalhead-metal-file.jhtml">Demi Lovato's favorite black-metal band</a> &#8212; will release a a three-disc DVD/CD set called "The Invaluable Darkness," the band's first visual offering since 2002's "World Misanthropy." Boasting live footage shot last year, during gigs in Norway, Germany and England, "The Invaluable Darkness" demonstrates the unbridled furor of seeing Dimmu live, guitarist Silenoz said. </P><P> </P><P>"It shows the honest rawness and atmospheric darkness of our concerts," the Norwegian told <i>Metal File</i> last week, after <a href="/news/articles/1596201/in-this-moment-make-the-dream-a-reality-metal-file.jhtml">dismissing recent online rumors that his band's next LP would be coming out through Roadrunner Records</a>. "Basically, it shows the intense live side of the band, as opposed to the perfection and the cleanness of how we sound on our albums. It's just a different side to the band, basically." </P><P> </P><P>Dimmu Borgir began thinking about "The Invaluable Darkness" two years ago, but didn't start capturing footage until last summer, Silenoz explained, adding that the band will use its current stint on the Blackest of the Black Tour &#8212; which got underway Thursday night in Miami Beach, Florida, and also features the tour's founder, Danzig, along with </P><P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/moonspell/artist.jhtml">Moonspell</a>Moonspell, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/winds_of_plague/artist.jhtml">Winds of Plague</a>Winds of Plague and Skeletonwitch &#8212; to promote the DVD. Dimmu Borgir will not, however, use the tour to write material for their next LP. </P><P> </P><P>"It's our first time on Blackest, but Glenn [Danzig] had wanted to bring us out before [on the tour], but we weren't available until now," Silenoz said. "We've done Ozzfest before, but we're looking forward to this tour more. We did the main stage on Ozzfest, playing in f--_ing broad daylight. This tour will let us play in bigger places, but at the same time showcase more of what the band's about, visually. We are going to concentrate on the tour for now. Some years ago, we tried putting [material] together on the road, but once we got home, we listened back to it, and were like, 'What the f--- <i>is</i> this?' So, we just scrapped it all. We find it's so much better to totally focus on one thing at a time, and then, when that's over, you move on to the next [thing]. We don't really feel like we need to rush things, anyway, so we'll just take our time, and it's going to be what it's going to be." </P><P> </P><P>Dimmu Borgir hope to reconvene in late December to begin writing the follow-up to 2007's diabolically titled <i>In Sorte Diaboli.</i> "We have some ideas floating around already, but we haven't arranged any material yet," he said. "We'll start doing that once the touring for this DVD is over." The band's frontman, Shagrath, is also due to marry soon &#8212; he's engaged to actor Nicolas Cage's ex-girlfriend, Christina Fulton, so that may have an effect on when Dimmu finish their next album, which Silenoz said could be out this coming spring. </P><P> </P><P>"I'm sure [Shagrath] won't let anything get in the way [of] the band &#8212; I think, I hope," the guitarist said. "We don't need a Yoko [Ono] situation." </P><P> </P><P>While Dimmu have been at it going on 15 years now, Silenoz said he doesn't think their forthcoming material will be much of a departure from their previous black-metal offerings. </P><P> </P><P>"And we have always been about more than just that term, 'black metal,' " he said. "Luckily for us, the older you get, the less concerned you get with the categorization and putting labels on your music. Things start getting more and more limitless with us, and we know that we operate within certain frames. But we try not to analyze things too much, because it's just going to be working against you in the end. When we write new stuff, we don't think about what we should write &#8212; we just get together, and put material together, and if we like it, we keep it. That's the formula, if we even have a formula." </P><P> </P><P>Dimmu Borgir are definitely getting older &#8212; guitarist Galder will be missing Blackest because of a recent addition to his family, and <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/susperia/artist.jhtml">Susperia's</a>Susperia's Cyrus will be filling in for him; while former <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/vader/artist.jhtml">Vader</a>Vader drummer Dariusz Brzozowski takes over for Hellhammer, who had to leave the band in 2007 after sustaining a neck injury that's now limited the use of his right arm. As Dimmu has gotten on in years, Silenoz admits they have failed to keep pace with some of the more extreme black-metal acts that have followed in their wake. </P><P> </P><P>"We helped open doors for the more extreme bands out there," Silenoz said. "I'm sure we helped open doors for bands like Watain, [insomuch as] people that had maybe started listening to us first then went on to the more extreme stuff. Let's face it &#8212; we're not as extreme as Watain and other bands like that, but we're fine with that." </P><P> </P><P>The Blackest of the Black Tour continues through November 10 in San Francisco. </P><P> </P><P>The rest of the week's metal news: </P><P> </P><P>Dimmu's tourmates on Blackest, <b>Winds of Plague</b>, have announced ex-<b>Azusa</b> drummer <b>Art Cruz</b> has joined their ranks &#8212; he replaced <b>Jeff Tenney</b>. According to the band's blog, "Art has already added a new spark to the band and has provided us with a solid backbone that will allow us to continue our rampage stronger than ever." ... </P><P> </P><P>What the world really needs is another </P><P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/led_zeppelin/artist.jhtml"><b>Led Zeppelin</b></a><b>Led Zeppelin</b> box set, so, on November 4, Rhino Records will issue the <i>Led Zeppelin Definitive Collection Mini LP Replica CD</i> box set. We also worked on a track yesterday that is so epic &#8212; we trade vocals and do two different melodies at the same time. This album went from a melodic metal album to an epic mix of metal/rock/pop/shoegaze and punk. So all of your metal expectations will be incorrect &#8212; we are pushing genre boundaries." Usher And Diplo Found 'Chemistry' On 'Climax'

In-demand producer/DJ also talks to MTV News about upcoming projects with No Doubt, Snoop Dogg, more.
By Zachary Swickey

<P><b>MADISON, Wisconsin</b> &#8212; It was just four years ago that <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/diplo/artist.jhtml">Diplo</a> put his production prowess on full display with M.I.A.'s mega-hit <a href="http://www.mtv.com/videos/mia/195024/paper-planes.jhtml">"Paper Planes."</a> Since then, the DJ/producer has become a go-to producer for major acts like Usher, whose latest single, R&B jam "Climax," features work from the Philadelphia native. </P><P> </P><P>On Tuesday, MTV News hit up the first stop on the campus-themed <a href="http://newsroom.mtv.com/2012/03/28/diplo-chiddy-bang-axe-one-night-only-tour">AXE One Night Only Tour</a> in Wisconsin, and we caught up with the headlining DJ to talk about his upcoming projects. </P><P> </P><P>"We got really luck on that one," he said of the track from Usher's upcoming album. "We just had great chemistry. I was super-nervous working with him the first two days. ... The way we did it, it was just a super-open format. He was down to do whatever we were excited about. </P><P> </P><P>"I love Usher," Diplo gushed. "I'm an Usher fan. I love him for records like 'Confessions Pt. II' and 'Burn,' those are some of the first R&B records from my generation that are still lasting forever. And we did some uptempo stuff too. I don't know what'll make the album, but I think there are definitely three songs that'll make it." </P><P> </P><P>Diplo is currently involved with a number of projects and luckily he was willing to dish. After working last summer with <a href="/news/articles/1670849/no-doubt-album-release.jhtml">No Doubt on their upcoming record</a>, the producer revealed he had good news to share. </P><P> </P><P>"We just finished. I was actually in Jamaica last month and I went in and did some extra stuff on that record," he told us. "I'm super-excited. It's probably going to be a single for their album. They've been [tweeting] about the song, so they're excited about it. I think it's going to be a 'No Doubt featuring Major Lazer' record, because we were producers, and there's another artist on it, too, that we recorded in Jamaica. </P><P> </P><P>"But you'll have to wait," Diplo warned, "I don't know how far off that record is, but every song I've heard is a bona-fide hit. ' </P><P> </P><P>The superstar DJ also recently took to his Facebook page and casually mentioned that he's already started production on 18 tracks for a record with <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/snoop_dogg/artist.jhtml">Snoop Dogg</a>. </P><P> </P><P>"Snoop Dogg is an icon, man; he's bigger than the music," Diplo said. "What we're doing is a reggae record. It's like Snoop Dogg and Major Lazer together. It's all reggae and he's singing and he's doing a f---ing awesome job and I never knew it, but he had his heart in every song. ... We're going to get back into the production of it next month, and I'm really proud of that record. It's the first record I've ever executive-produced and his crew is amazing. </P><P></p>

HGTV, LA and Dining Room Tables

I've been watching a lot of HGTV since coming to LA. My favorite shows are House Hunters and House Hunters International. There's also another show I like to watch called For Rent, but only because it makes me angry.

When it comes to apartments/homes, I think living in New York for the past eleven years has made me bitter because there was this whiny broad on For Rent a few nights ago who was looking at a huge place—A HUGE PLACE—and was like, "There's no place for a dining room table..."

B*TCH, YOU'RE LUCKY TO GET A KITCHEN IN NEW YORK.

I hated her.

Now there's some stupid lady on House Hunters who wants a townhouse with a fireplace that she can turn on with a light switch. IT HAS TO BE A LIGHT SWITCH because she doesn't want to bend down and flip a switch on the floor.

WHO DO THESE PEOPLE THINK THEY ARE?

Anyway, I know my LA update is WAY overdue (and truth be told I wrote a long one last week but for some reason it didn't save so I lost the whole thing and I was so angry that I just said, "Ah, f*ck it," and closed the computer instead of rewriting) but to give you a quick update, I AM SO HAPPY HERE. I MEAN, I'M REALLY, REALLY HAPPY. And I think living here and watching HGTV—both of these things combined—has made me realize that New York was just beating me down. I mean, the fireplace lady—yes, she's an idiot. But there's nothing wrong with wanting a dining room table. Why did I get so mad at that lady?

Since being here, at least once a day I ask myself why I have lived in New York for so long. (It's like I had Stockholm Syndrome or something.) CALIFORNIA IS AWESOME. It's like the promised land. It's sunny all the time and there are birds and flowers everywhere. I have space out here. I have a sofa on the patio out here. I HAVE A SOFA OUTSIDE. I haven't seen one rat since I've been here. But hummingbirds? THEY ZIP BY MY HEAD EVERY DAY. I am so happy.

I'm supposed to go back to New York in November, but truth be told, I'm not sure I will.

Jessica Sanchez's Almost Elimination: Other 'American Idol' Shockers

Jennifer Hudson and Chris Daughtry were booted from 'Idol' earlier than anyone expected.
By Gil Kaufman

America, you only have yourself to blame. For the past few seasons it seems like "American Idol" viewers get a little lazy this time of year and suddenly forget to vote for their favorites, putting one of the potential winners in jeopardy.

Case in point: preternaturally talented teen diva Jessica Sanchez. Even after killing it on Wednesday night (again)
, BeBe Chez very nearly got sent home in seventh place Thursday night in one of the most shocking near-eliminations in recent history.

The judges didn't even have to hear her sing before they jumped up to save the singer
, but she came thisclose to becoming the latest super-talent to wash out of "Idol" way before her time.

The "Idol" save has a checkered history. Sometimes it's been pulled out for singers whose talents (and commercial prospects) were decent at best (Michael Lynche) or annoying at worst (Casey Abrams). In fact, of the four saves in "Idol" history, the only one that truly made sense was season 8's piano-playing Matt Giraud, who only made it one more week before being sent home.

With only two weeks left before their save would have timed out, Randy, Jennifer and Steven pulled out the lifeline for the one remaining contestant who truly deserves it, if only for the fact that Sanchez could break the string of wins by bland white male singers who've met with solid to dismal chart success over the past four seasons. If Sanchez had gotten the boot, she would have joined a fairly illustrious group of singers who were gone too soon. Among them:

Jennifer Hudson: Success is the best revenge, and when Hudson was inexplicably sent home in seventh place during season 3 who knew she'd go on to be the first Oscar winner in "Idol" history and a musical powerhouse. Um, we did.

Chris Daughtry : The second-most shocking elimination in "Idol" history has to be bald-headed steak-and-potatoes rocker Chris Daughtry. He went out in fourth place in season 5, which was won by ... Taylor Hicks. Yeah, that guy. After declining to take the lead singer gig in Fuel, Daughtry went on to multi-platinum success and a spot as the third best-selling "Idol" alum of all time.

Melinda Doolittle : If you watched season 6 of "Idol" then you likely remember the powerhouse vocalist that ex-lead judge Simon Cowell dubbed "incredible." But, somehow, Melinda got the hook in the week before the finale, beat out by Blake Lewis. You know, the beatboxing faux-hawk wearing dude who lost to Jordin Sparks? Exactly.

Do you think the judge's made the right call by saving Jessica? Let us know in comments below!

Get your "Idol" fix on MTV News' "American Idol" page, where you'll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions.
